Top Ten New-to-Me Authors I Read In 2014

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

I went a BIIIIT over ten. Very much over. I just like to spread the author love!

Rosamund Hodge
Books I've read: Cruel Beauty
Hodge is a master of prose, magic, and romance. The way she twists and deepens the fairy tales she chooses to retell just totally works for me, and I can't WAIT to read Crimson Bound, her next novel.

Sharon Biggs Waller
Books I've read: A Mad, Wicked Folly
One of my favorite historical fiction reads of the entire year! Shippy, feminist, and brilliant.

Paula Stokes
Books I've read: The Art of Lainey
THIS BOOK. It was pure shippy quippy bantery joy. Plus Paula herself is fabulous, and I can't wait to read more from her :)

Anne Blankman
Books I've read: Prisoner of Night and Fog
PoNaF was a gripping, soul-sickening, intense read in the very best way. I can't recommend this book enough, and I was thrilled to pieces to find out it had a sequel.

Liz Czukas
Books I've read: Ask Again Later, Top Ten Clues You're Clueless
Czukas is now an auto-buy author for me. Her sense of humor is positively delightful, and her plots are zany in a way that totally suits me.

Ellie Marney
Books I've read: Every Breath
WATTSCROFT. WATTSSSSSS. CROFTTTTTT. 'Nuff said.

Elizabeth May
Books I've read: The Falconer
KIARAAAAAAAAN

Natalie C. Parker
Books I've read: Beware the Wild
I looooooved the prose and the atmosphere in this book. The writing was positively magical, and I'll read whatever Parker writes next.

Rachael Allen
Books I've read: 17 First Kisses
It's a rare author that can make me laugh AND make me think about important social issues. It's an even rarer author who can take a subject like slut-shaming and do it justice.

(aka I was late to this party)

Cinda Williams Chima
Books I've read: The Demon King, The Exiled Queen, The Gray Wolf Throne, The Crimson Crown
MASTER OF FANTASY AND NEW QUEEN OF MY SHELF.

Rick Riordan
Books I've read: The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan's Curse, The Battle of the Labyrinth, The Last Olympian, (series review) The Lost Hero, The Son of Neptune, The Mark of Athena, The House of Hades
I hate myself for waiting to so long. The speed with which I tumbled into this fandom is a bit frightening.

Sarah Fine
Books I've read: Of Metal and Wishes
I couldn't stop reading this book. I love the way Fine writes and am so glad there are plenty more books from her to read.

Jenny Han
Books I've read: To All the Boys I've Loved Before
LoveloveloveLOVE this book. Why did I wait so long to try Jenny Han?!

Nina LaCour
Books I've read: Everything Leads to You
This BOOK. A contemporary Los Angeles lesbian fairy tale delight. It made my whole soul happy.

Richelle Mead
Books I've read: Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound, Last Sacrifice, Bloodlines, The Golden Lily, The Indigo Spell, The Fiery Heart
LIFE. RUINER.

Mary E. Pearson
Books I've read: The Kiss of Deception
I could not put KoD down, though I was on a family vacation and should have been socializing or enjoying the sights. Nope. Just wanted to read.

Kiersten White
Books I've read: Illusions of Fate
QUIPPY SHIPPY PERFECTION. This book totally took my by surprise. A perfect light fantasy.

  5. I read Jenny Han's summer trilogy two years ago and it's seriously amazing, I really need to pick up her other books! And yes to Rick Riordan! I'm currently rereading the Percy Jackson series for a second time and I've recently finished the Heroes of Olympus, as well as the Kane Chronicles - I love his books. As for all the other authors, most of their books on my wishlist - great choices! :)

  6. I tumbled into the Riordan Fandom insanely quickly too! I've read near enough all his books in the last few months, like, wowzer! So many great authors on this list, I started Hans work, and Meads, so that's been an interesting year, but Riordan made my list too! You've had a great year Gillian, you should be proud! :)

  12. I haven’t really heard much about Prisoner of Night and Fog, but WOW that sounds amazing! Adding that to my TBR :D

I’m the opposite for Riordan - I’m not falling in as quickly as I thought! I’m pacing myself on the books because I know if I binge them I’ll end up CRAZY INVESTED and I just can’t handle that right now lol.

    1. I know. But it was under a different name, and, as Paula Stokes, she is a debut with Lainey.
