Yeah, I cheated. Mucho cheating. An excess of cheating. But a LOT of good books come out in 2014, okay? And I wanted everybody to hear about all of them. I am an enemy of TBRs everywhere.

Top 2014 Debuts (With Covers)

158399761755948718140047
157894431852573417375024

1. Red Rising by Pierce Brown

I'm not even really sure what this one is about, but I think it's some awesome kind of dystopian awesomeness. It's being uber hyped, and I uber want it.

2. Falls the Shadow by Stefanie Gaither

That COVER. The fact that it's about a creepy sci-fi replacement sister who might be a murderer. THAT COVER.

3. Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira

A girl who writes letter to dead famous people in order to deal with her grief for her sister? Yes please.

4. Something Real by Heather Demetrios

Books about TV shows, reality television, and the movie business seem to be becoming a sort of mini-trend. This TV addict is excited about that.

5. Hungry by. H.A. Swain

I love food. I love dystopian novels. Put them together and I'm a happy camper. PLUS MAJOR COVER LOVE. THE FORK IS BECKONING ME.

6. My Faire Lady by Lauren Wettersten

I've always been fascinated with Renaissance Faire, and I can't wait to read a cute contemporary that's set in one. The punny title only adds to my excitement.

7. Trust Me, I'm Lying by Mary Elizabeth Summer

Con artist teenage girl. Enough said.

8. Sekret by Lindsday Smith

Psychic teenage KGB spy. The Russophile in me is salivating.

9. The Nethergrim by Matthew Jobin

It's fantasy. There's darkness and magic afoot. It's like catnip to me.

10. The Break Up Artist by Philip Siegel

It's about a teenage girl who breaks up couples as a job, and that speaks to my soul.

11. Gilded by Christina L. Farley

I'm a newbie Kdrama addict, a fantasy lover, and a girl who loves some diversity in her YA. So a fantasy novel set in contemporary Korea about a kick-ass girl pitted against an evil demi-god? YES. ALL THE YES.

12. Behind the Scenes by Dahlia Adler

Dahlia's a Twitter friend of mine, and you should all be on the lookout for her book about a girl who falls for an actor on the hit TV show her best friend stars in. Sounds like SUCH fun!

 Top Debuts (Without Covers)

1. Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley

LGBT de-segregation love story give it GIVE IT

2. Salt & Storm by Kendall Kulper

Historical fantasy! I love historical fantasy.

3. Not in the Script by Amy Finnegan

Another movie book, this time about a teenage actress who grows up in front of the cameras on a hit TV show.

4. The Fire Wish by Amber Lough

Middle Eastern fantasy. I repeat, MIDDLE EASTERN FANTASY.

5. Hook's Revenge by Heidi Schulz

Another Twitter friend with a book coming out! It's about Captain Hook's daughter. If that doesn't interest you, well, I don't know what will.

Honorable mentions: Otherbound by Corinne Duyvis, Landry Park by Bethany Hagen, Tabula Rasa by Kristen Lippert-Martin, Half  Bad by Sally Green, A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller (I've read this one, and it's AMAZING!), Alienated by Melissa Landers, which I just reviewed. It's adorable.

Extra honorable mentions: Two of my favorite bloggy people (and people people) Molli and Jen are publishing their novels this year! As You Turn Away by Molli Moran, about swoony Southern boys, and Threats of Sky and Sea by Jennifer Ellision, about Elemental magic, hot princes, sassy snarky heroines, and evil kings.

Um. So. Yeah. 2014 is going to be a bit busy.

Whoops?

  3. <333 Thanks so much for the shoutout, love! I'm dyyyying for HOOK'S REVENGE, too, and I can tell you already that SEKRET is afreakingmazing and THE BREAKUP ARTIST is hilarious and fabulous!

  4. I had The Break-Up Artist and Behind the Scenes on my list too. :) I'm also looking forward to Falls the Shadow, Something Real, and Love Letters to the Dead! I haven't heard of a few of the others, but I'm going to look them up. For some reason that freaking fork cover really irritates me. Like nails on a chalkboard kind of irritates me.

  5. I'd pretty much sell a kidney to get Hook's Revenge. I need it now!

  6. I cannot scroll by Hungry without laughing at that cover. I'm sorry, I just can't. It's too hilarious.

I've never heard of Falls the Shadow before soo.... *runs to Goodreads* *trips over TBR*

I wasn't that interested in A Mad, Wicked Folly, but after seeing how much you loved it, it's definitely on my radar now.

  9. Yep, aside from all the awesome first in series and series endings coming out this year, there are quite a number of debuts that I cannot wait to read! Love Letters To The Dead, Alienated, The Murder Complex, Salvage, Hexed...

  10. OMG YOU PUT TOSAS ON YOUR LIST I LOVE YOU.

*ahem* But yessss, also looking forward to quite a few of these (others, I need to look up-- I'm getting my head back in the blogging game!). Esp. looking forward to Sekret and Love Letter, but HOMG some of those "non-covered" fantasies sound INCREDIBLE. NEED.

  11. I want to read Love Letters to The Dead and Hungry so bad! I mean, the beckoning fork. . . I wanted to read it before I ever read what it was about. I'm sorry, but how do you not obey the fork? It could poke you with it's prong things. Great list!

  12. Yes 2014 is going to be a very busy reading year. SO MANY AWESOME BOOKS COMING OUT. Or at least, I *think* they are awesome. Let's hope. ;)
Anyway, yes, to cheating, because there was no way I was going to make my list without cheating too lol. And the stupidest part is that I STILL managed to forget some debuts I'm looking forward to, like Trust Me, I'm Lying and Love Letters to the Dead.
I never even knew about Red Rising until seeing it now on a lot of lists.

  13. Awesome list :D I very much enjoyed Love Letters to the Dead. And hoping I will love Red Rising :) Hope you'll love all of these. <3

  14. My Faire Lady and Something Real both made my list! You have mentioned A LOT of AMAZING looking books on your list! Landry Park, Hook's Revenge, The Break-Up Artist, and Alienated are just a few of the ones I'm looking forward to reading! Awesome list! :)

  15. I'm so crazy excited for Red Rising. I'm sure hoping it lives up to all the praise people have been dumping on it so far. Hooks' Revenge is a big giant YES. yes yes yes. 2014 is going to be a great year.

  16. Hi Gilly hiiiiiiiiiiii. Prepare for much silliness because I'm on a sugar rush to keep from collapsing in a heap.

SOMETHING REAL. ASDFGHJKL I LOVED THE EVERLOVING FUCK OUT OF THAT NOVEL. I promise, it's a good one, but maybe that's because it focuses on the more horrifying aspects of being in a reality TV family and I view reality TV as a subset of horror. So.

Hungry? I'm totally judging you for that. :P I read the synopsis for that one out loud to my girls when the catalog went out for bloggers and we all cracked up. One of them asked if the thing they were hungry for was sex and neither I nor the other BFF could disagree with her. We were laughing a little too hard to speak and also munching on our frosted sugar cookies. (I happen to remember that the cookie I had been nibbling on at the time was a serial killer.)

Trust Me, I'm Lying is the only one of these books I absolutely cannot read because the main character is named Julep. JULEP. No. Julep is the name of my most favoritest nail polish brand ever, NOT a teenage con artist. Humph. / picky elitist moment over

Yes Gilded yesssssssssss. I'm praying that shows up on Amazon Vine and I think it might because Skyscape/Amazon imprint and all, Amazon using Vine to promote its own books a lot lately, etc. Of course, I expected the same for World After and was wrong, so I can't trust it.

Sekret and Love Letters to the Dead are on my TBR too and I'm staring at them as I write this, but I can't find anything to say about them. Sad, ain't it?

I'm glad you found Alienated to be adorable because if you hadn't, I would have had to get you good. SO CUTE. Aelyx was so endearingly clueless for so long I can't help but love him.

  17. *makes a face at self* I can't believe I forgot SOMETHING REAL. Dumb me.

YES HUNGRY YESSSSS. I'm already planning to put that one up on Cover Love.

Confession: I CANNOT get excited for Sekret. I want to. I do. But the title, Gillian. I can't do the title. I'll have to wait until the glowing reviews force me to read it.

Also, totally tickled by the ones that we share as compared to the ones we don't. You have some on here I somehow haven't heard of. Like SALT & STORM (haiiiiiii, tattooed harpoon boy!) and THE FIRE WISH (HOLY COW, GILLIAN!!!!)

  18. I hadn't heard of Threats of sky and sea before but just looked it up and sounds super intriguing! Love anything to do with secrets, plotting and kings and war! I also hadn't heard of hook's revenge but that sounds AMAZING. love retellings!

  19. Okay I definitely have a lot more to look forward to this year thanks to this post ;) I really had never heard of a lot of these books and some of them sound so intriguing I'm so glad that you introduced them to me! Fall the Shadow especially looks like something that I would enjoy..

  20. Great list! I'm quite excited for a few of these myself. Love Letters to the Dead made my list too, I can't wait to read that. There seems to be so many good books coming out in 2014, I'm not sure where I'll find the time to read them all. I hope you get to all of your picks :) My TTT.

  21. Haha, I really wanted to cheat like you did, especially with all the coverless titles. I'M SO EXCITED FOR HOOK'S REVENGE. I CAN'T EVEN .. *BOUNCES*

    ReplyDelete
  22. I HATE YOU FOR ADDING MORE BOOKS TO MY TBR, GILLIAN. (Just kidding, you know I love you.) I can always count on you to have an awesome collection of fantasy books on any of your TTT lists (or blog post lists, really), and this post is NO exception. I can't even decide which one I'm excited for the most! GAH. *runs off to Goodreads to add all the pretties*
