Blogging on Vacation (AKA How to Disconnect)

True fact: I'm an internet addict. Other true fact: I don't really see this as much of a problem. I like to think I'm not unhealthy about the amount of time I spend on the internet. Most of my favorite people live in it, and my community is on it, and TWITTER IS SUPER FUN, RIGHT? So really, i don't feel about about how much of my life centers around social media. Even beyond that, I'm ALWAYS connected. Need to Instagram a pic? I can do that. Need to Google something? I can do that. I'm always connected to the rest of the world somehow. I've always got my "Friends" and "Bloggers" Twitter lists open, keeping up to date with the happenings in the blogging world.

Right now, I'm on vacation with my dear friend Christina from A Reader of Fictions. We're in sunny, delicious, delightful Cancun, which is not the end of the world, exactly, but internet here is more or a theory than an actuality. So for the last two days, I've mostly been entirely disconnected. I haven't written any posts. I haven't read any blogs. I haven't read through my Twitter feed at all.

And you know what? It's NICE.

Not that I'm thrilled to be rid of all of you. In fact, I miss talking with my friends quite a lot, and by the end of my week abroad, I'll probably be ferociously glad to get back to civilization (aka internetz). But after a very stressful two months, it's just the best thing ever to unplug and unwind. I've been reading so much, and it's only been two days! (I'm reading The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey, for those curious, and it's amazing.) It's relaxing and restorative and all kinds of other positive r-words. I mean, I'm so unplugged I didn't even watch The 100 last night! I don't even know who I am.

2460-100!!!!

So right now, I'm taking both a mini life vacation and a mini (unintentional, but pretty nice) social media vacation. This is why posts will be sporadic and my Twitter presence nonexistent. At one point in my blogging life, that would have made me incredibly anxious--MUST POST EVERY DAY MUST HAVE CONTENT MUST STAY ON TOP OF THE TWITTERS MUST DOMINATE LIFE--but now it's just kind of like... *shrug*. I miss you guys, but life won't crumble if I don't post daily. Chill by the pool and have a margarita.

Which is exactly what I'm off to do! Byeeeeee.

  1. Enjoy your vacation!!! I wonder how I would do with a few days away from the internet. It actually sounds kind of relaxing. I may have to try that the next time I go on vacation.
