Top Ten Books I Want to See as Movies

If I were Queen of the Universe, these are the books I'd demand be made into movies posthaste. (This list only includes books I didn't put on my list last time. Cinder, for instance, is still my number one pick. COME ON, HOLLYWOOD.)

I'd give an arm and a leg to see these books up on the big screen. I want to see them as movies so much, in fact, that I made some crap movie posters for them! I am by no means a photoshop expect, so most of these are cobbled together in Picmonkey, but I had ways too much fun putting them together.

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
This series is begging to become a movie. BEGGING. Okay, maybe I'm the one begging. Whatever, I just want to see a movie Celaena.

2. Prisoner of Night and Fog by Anne Blankman
I'd LOVE to see this era brought to live on the big screen with a YA focus. Hitler would be horridly creeptastic, and Daniel would be delicious.

3. Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen
Lady Scar, throwing knives. Real life Rob. Action and romance and blood galore. Yes please.

4. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Anna's a cinephile, so obviously she'd approve of her story coming to life on film. Paris is basically the most photogenic city in the world. MAKE THIS HAPPEN, HOLLYWOOD PEOPLE.

5. Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
So I know a lot of this book is pretty internal, but i feel like the right writer and director could make it work. I just realllllly want a real life Cath and Levi.

6. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge
This book is SO VISUAL that I would love to see a really creative director's interpretation of it.

7. Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard
The gothic, romantic, semi-steampunk atmosphere would translate really well on camera. Plus ZOMBIES.

8. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFever
THE WORLD DESERVES A MOVIE ABOUT ASSASSIN NUNS. IT JUST DOES.

9. Graceling by Kristin Cashore
I know it shouldn't all be about the book boyfriends (and it's not, I super want to see IRL Katsa kicking ass) but I also really just want a real life Po. Is that so wrong?

Honorable mentions: GEORGIA NICOLSON TV SHOW PLEASE, ahem, To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han, Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour, Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi, Made You Up by Francesca Zappia, The Falconer by Elizabeth May, The Archived by Victoria Schwab, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, Vampire Academy DONE RIGHT (TV would be optimal), Magonia because HI I want to see blue people on ships in the sky please

I left of books that are in development (ie Shadow and Bone because HOPEFULLYYYYY those are actually happening)

  2. Bahaha, I love that you made movie posters for these! (This is way beyond my skills in picmonkey.) The one you made for Throne of Glass is my favorite, and not just because I am in total agreement with you that that movie needs to be made. I also want an assassin nuns movie because it is what the world and my heart needs (also, I think the world-building and like ... character of the setting are so strong that it'd come through really well in a movie).

I hadn't thought about Cruel Beauty, but you're right - and in some ways, as much as I love the book, I think a good movie could improve upon it but making some of the mythology clearer.

  3. YESYESYESYES LOOK AT ALL OF THESE BADASS WOMEN.

These movies would be AMAZING! Well, I'd hope they'd be amazing (you never know if they'd do the books justice). I would especially love a Throne of Glass, Cruel Beauty (lovelovelove this poster), Something Strange and Deadly, and Grave Mercy (this fake poster is faaaaaabulous) movie. I feel like so many of these would make excellent films, SO WHY HASN'T HOLLYWOOD CASHED IN ON ALL OF THESE YET?

  9. An interesting list. I'm not sure I'd like to see Fangirl adapted if only because I loved the book and I'm afraid they'd mess it up.

  11. Okay so a) These posters are so much more impressive than anything I could have come up with so A+ Gillian, and b) yaaaaaaaaas. Honestly, Cinder is still my #1 as well (I want a GOT-scope Lunar Chronicles TV show SO BAD) but I am 100% on board with so many of your picks. Grave Mercy is the assassin nun movie I have been waiting for. Anna would be the cutest. Prisoner of Night and Fog would be so dark and moving and yesssss. Yay for lots of good choices!!

  13. Wow, these posters are absolutely awesome! Super creative way to present your list. And I think EVERYONE had Throne of Glass on their lists today, which makes me incredibly happy, and hopefully means that something might actually happen with that, which would be amazing. Great list!

  18. Grave Mercy is a GREAT pick! I mean, we're going to have a huge gap when THG leaves the theaters. Wouldn't this be a great way to bridge that gap?
