The YA Sorting Hat: Book Boyfriends Part II

Last time on The YA Sorting Hat: Part III

One day, I asked myself the not at all ridiculous question, "Which houses would I sort my favorite literary characters into?" So got Ye Olde Sorty out of the Headmaster's office and put him on the job of sorting some of my favorite non-Harry Potter characters into Hogwarts Houses.

Rowan from Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
For a moment I considered putting him in Slytherin or even Hufflepuff because this is a HARD GAME, YOU GUYS, but Rowan really is the bravest beast Fae warrior ever, and he's certainly chivalrous and daring and YEP, OKAY, GRYFFINDOR.

Po from Graceling by Kristin Cashore
PUNCH HIT FIGHT STAB RESCUE SAVE BATTLE FIGHT! Shades of Hufflepuff in this boy, but I'm putting him right firmly in Gryffindor where he belongs.

Wolf from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
I guess brave, self-sacrificing warrior boys just automatically go in Gryffindor? (Plus he's def got a case of the HP5 emos in Cress) (Unpopular opinion: I love emo Harry Potter)

The Dragon from Uprooted by Naomi Novik
Obvs my tower wizard with his tower of books and pedantry and utter disregard for forms of magic different from his own would be in wise old Ravenclaw. Though my Dragon is old, he's def not as wise as he thinks he is.

The YA Sorting Hat: Book Boyfriends Edition

Roar from Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi
Precious Roar, with his easy wit and killer smile, is the most loyal bff ever to Aria, to Perry, and even to Liv. Mmmm, Roar.

Kenji from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Possibly the greatest fictional best friend every created or at least the one I most wish was REAL so I could MARRY HIM

Brigan from Fire by Kristin Cashore
I guess Hufflepuff is where I put all the precious cinnamon rolls who are too good for this world. Brigan has a rough beginning of it in Fire, and he has moments of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw both, but underneath his heart is pure and his loyalty strong and NOBODY works harder for their kingdom than my beloved Prince Brigan <333

Carswell Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
Thorne. My BAE. Cheeky, troublesome, ambitious Thorne, Captain of the (sort of) finest Rampion in the galaxy. All he wants is to be a CAPTAIN, guys, a charming handsome captain with his own ship and a bit of cash. But he's slowly learning to be a bit more Gryffindor (a certain blonde is helping him).

Han Alister from The Seven Realms series by Cinda Williams Chima
Former street lord, Aladdin ruffian, king of thieves, ruthless bad ass, misunderstood boy, king of my heart, HAN ALISTER. (That was like a weird impromptu too-long haiku, idk)

  1. LOVE and agree so much with your choices for Wolf (my fiercely protective warrior), The Dragon (the dumbest smart wizard in all the land), Roar (BEST FRIEND EVER), Kenji (I want him to be real so so so badly), and Thorne (hilariously funny but tricksy guy). Only those because I unfortunately haven't had the pleasure of meeting the rest of these guys so I wouldn't know about them but I can't wait to read their books.

  2. i would like to petition for rowan to live in hagrid's hut for me for reasons, like real reasons beyond then we could live in hagrid's hut together and I can't remember what they are now because I'm lost in fantasy land. Something to do with him being able to just chill and maybe occasionally be a bird and chill idk but yes, that. Reasons. Science.

  3. Has anyone ever told you how BRILLIANT you are?! This is amazing!! I agree so much (at least about the ones, ya know, that I've actually read). You've even convinced me to give Under the Never Sky a chance because of the adorable sounding Roar.

I totally agree about Rowan. He's so complicated! Though, I have to say that he definitely exemplifies the qualities of Hufflepuff. Ridiculously loyal to Aelin, that one. Oh, oh! but also Slytherin! And Gryffindor! TOO HARD TO CHOOOSE!

But Thorne and Han are absolutely spot on. Love them so much.

  4. I certainly agree that Rowan and Wolf belong in Gryffindor! Their personalities seem fitting, since they happen to be brave, wounded warrior loves - who are total badasses and fiery in their passions. And Thorne as a Slytherin - nothing could make more sense. I also obviously approve of putting Roar and Kenji in my arms - I mean, in my house. Because these boys are fiercely loyal and such fantastic friends <3

  6. I love emo Harry, too. He's my favorite. :D

These posts are the best. I love that you put Brigan in Hufflepuff, the Dragon is definitely Ravenclaw, and your Slytherin picks are perfect. I can't wait for the Tamora Pierce one!

  7. I haven't read all of these books, BUT I think you're spot on for the characters I do know! And I loooooove your reasons for all of them :) Rown, Po and Wolf make perfect sense for Gryffindor, Roar and Kenji were born to be Hufflepuffs and Carswell is a total Slytherin (though I would have had hard time sorting him if I was doing this on my own). This feature is one of my FAVES!
