Ten Places Books Have Made Me Want To Visit

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

This list applies only to places I haven't been. I'm a lucky girl, and I've done a ton of traveling in my life. I've been to over 35 countries and 5 continents (I'm coming for you one day, Australia), so that definitely narrowed my list a bit, but the world (especially the fictional) is OVERRUN with beeyootiful places I'd like to see one day.

OBVIOUSLY. Out of any bookish location in existence, this is the one I want to go to most. HOGWARTS GRAD SCHOOL PLEASE

I want to be Annabeth's half-sister, chilling in the Athena cabin, training to battle mythical monsters, strolling through strawberry fieldsssss

Gansey and Ronan are there. I want to be there.

Sorry-in-the-Vale is the cutest little town in the Cotswolds (when it's not being threatened by evil incestual sorcerers, but whatever). I've actually been to the Cotswolds before, and there is nowhere on earth more picturesque.

Some day. SOME DAY, I WILL BE LANDED GENTRY. I WILL.

Prince Edward Island! Home of babbling brooks, Gilbert Bythes, and imaginative redheads!

I know that technically this is a gave full of phosphorescent worms, but after they were so beautifully featured in For Darkness Shows the Stars, I've always wanted to go! LOOK AT THE PRETTYYYY

I had (and still have) a thing for the Romanovs, especially the last of them. Anastasia's Royal Diary was one of my FAVORITE reads as a kid, and I've always ached to go to Tsarskoe Selo, aka the Tsar's Village, which contains both the grand Catherine Palace and the "smaller" Alexander Palace, pictured above

I would feel very melodramatic and full of Gothic greatness as I fled my perfidious lover across the Yorkshire moors

Much thanks to Christina and Meg for helping me put much of this list together!

  1. Yes!! I love this!! I've wanted to go to Russia since being obsessed with Anastasia and so many other books have inspired me to go! I LOVED that book as a kid! And Hogwarts...obvi...

  2. Camp Half-Blood and the Moors made my list too!
I would love to visit Pemberely as well, especially if Mr. Darcy was giving a tour.
So cool that you have done so much traveling!
    Great List!

  3. Wuthering Heights made my list! There's just something about that 300 year old, gothic house sitting out on the moors that calls to me!

  4. What a brilliant list! It's so great that you've been able to visit so many places already too. Hogwarts will be very popular this week!

  5. Camp Half Blood would be super awesome- and yes GLOW WORMS!! I love glow worms. I was lucky enough to visit the Anau Caves in the Milford Sound in the South of NZ. I can tell you now they are so stunning. Speaking of, I have to get my hands on that book ASAP!

  6. Camp Half-Blood and Hogwarts also made my list (I mean, who doesn't want to go to Hogwarts?)! And you've made me want to both go to the Waitomo Caves and to read For Darkness show the Stars!

  7. BUT THOSE CAVES. *eyes boggle* I just...wow. I would so go to those caves. I've only vaguely heard of the book, but that makes me 100% need to read it. Of course yes to Camp Half-Blood and Hogwarts. *nods* I want to go there too.
But, really?! You've been to 35 countries?! YOU ARE INTENSELY AMAZING. I live in Australia and trust me, it's the best continent of ever. You really need to see it. ;-)
    Here's my TTT!

  8. The presentation of your blog is amazing! I love all your choices and the photos in your article :)

  9. I contest your assumption that Henrietta is fictional. My theory is that Henrietta is actually Jerome, VA. Allow me to explain.

Fact: Henrietta is located in the Shenandoah Valley, ditto Jerome.
Fact: Jerome is right next to a set of three (THREE) curious historical structures called Henrietta Furnaces and these cool little stone ruins totally look like the kind of thing you'd find in the Raven Cycle
Fact: I actually don't have more facts but I felt like I'd seem more legit if I had three (THREE) facts
Fact: (HA! I DO HAVE A THIRD FACT) Jerome is located fairly close to Washington DC, making the DC airport the logical travel choice for visitors and where did they pick Mallory up in BLLB? DC!

Now, this may seem like the kind of wacky conspiracy theory born of someone who wears a tinfoil hat but don't let the fact that I am wearing a tinfoil hat confuse you, this is serious stuff. Henrietta needs to be real. I need to live there.

(Obviously, the rest of your list is fantastic and I would like to travel with you)

  12. Hahaha. Can I be landed gentry, too? I maybe marry a Mr. Darcy! Life would be awesome!

  13. HOGWARTS GRAD SCHOOL IS ALL I NEED IN LIFE. But I’ll accept Camp Half-Blood as well. That would be an okay compromise.

I keep putting off For Darkness Shows the Stars, but ohhhh so pretty. Must read it now!

  14. As per usual, I FREAKING LOVE THIS POST!! You really are so creative.
    My take:
I don't think I want to go to Hogwarts (becuz school), but Diagon Alley would be AWESOME. Pemberley, YES PLEASE, As well as any place from a Georgette Heyer novel. The Seven Realms and if I couldn't make it to Pern, then my imaginary list would be a total fail.
Real places? I can't think of any, except that Eat, Pray, Love made me want to visit Italy pretty badly.

  15. Ooooo, the Moores and Prince Edward's Island! I agree!

  16. This list is sooo amazing! I want to go to all of them! But mostly PEI so I could pretend I am Anne Shirley!

  17. Lurrrrrrrvely! Love the graphics! Also, HA!! I actually went to a place that you haven't! I'm stunned. (Pemberley, for the record. It's gorgeous. You should totally go.) AND you could fulfill your Hogwarts wanderlust by coming to visit me! Win-win! (Actually a trip to Wizarding World would force me to finish those books. Something to think about. :D)

  18. PEI has been on my list since watching Avonlea as a pre-teen. But I hear it's very windy. As are the moors, FYI. But your list is filled with the gorgeous, and I heartily approve. Pemberly is awesome but it lacks Henry Tilney. Northanger Abbey ftw!

  19. I hadn't known the caves from For Darkness Shows the Stars were real, but I definitely want to see them! And Hogwarts and the Throne of Glass definitely make my list. Celaena's world in the Throne of Glass and Tamora Pierce's Tortall and Luna are also places I want to visit.

  20. I actually forgot about Camp Half-Blood. But now that you mention it, I want to go there too! And Gansey and Ronan, I'd go just about wherever they go.

  21. I'll see you in class at Hogwarts Grad School! Seriously, I don't trust anyone who didn't put Hogwarts on their list this week.

I'd love to visit the Cotswolds someday!! Especially if Jared is there. And my BIGGEST ENGLAND REGRET is not going to Chatsworth House when I was there- that's where they filmed the 2005 Pemberley. Someday I'll be back, hoping Mr. Darcy is around every corner <3 The Yorkshire Moors! Heathcliffffff. I love the Brontes, I need to wallow in the heather and stomp around Haworth.

Tsarskoe Selo looks beautiful! I still want to go to Hobbiton, all that coziness and Hobbit food and greenery.

  22. Prince Edward Island is so at the top of my list!!! :D
