Hi. Gotta start with Ronan Lynch. Because Ronan Lynch
Simon from Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
PRECIOUS SIMON IN LOVE WITH A PRECIOUS BOY EATING PRECIOUS OREOS AND BEING PRECIOUS
Elisa from The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy by Rae Carson
Elisa is queen. She's a curvy kick ass queen and she will funk you up. Don't mess.
Fire from Fire by Kristin Cashore
TEXTUALLY BISEXUAL POC OKAY LOOK IT UP. Fire is my favorite of the Cashore heroines. I just really, really love Fire.
Cath from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Cath is such a great portrayal of a certain kind of mental illness and social anxiety, and I've never read a character who more closely resembles me and the way that my brain brains. She's my fictional soul twin.
Jessamin from Illusions of Fate by Kiersten White
I will always pimp this book, because it's glorious. Jessamine is a sasstastic POC in a hopelessly white fantasy version of Victorian/Edwardian England, struggling with being the victim of a whole lot of prejudice.
Shahrzad from The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh
Shazi for president.
Angela from Unspoken by Sarah Rees Brennan
I'd say Angela for president, but she is a) English, and therefore unqualified, and b) lazy, and therefore unwilling. Presidents don't get to take nearly as many naps (or kiss nearly as many girls) as she'd like.
Kenji from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Top five humans ever created by man, yes siree.
Kristin from None of the Above by I.W. Gregorio
My heart breaks for this girl. When she discovers that she's intersex, she gets put through a whoooooole lot of shit, but girl is STRONG IN THE FACE OF STRIFE. YES SHE IS.
Much from Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen.
Much! Precious Much, with his one hand, unwavering loyalty, and unending wisdom, considering his age. I heart Much.
Lara Jean from To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han
I basically just want to BE Lara Jean, if that's somehow possible.
Raisa from The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima
Biracial wolf princess coming to reclaim her matriarchal society with her bare hands, yes she is
Rhy from A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
Prince Rhy, bisexual prince of my heart <3333
Cinder from Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Cinder's ethnicity is never explicitly stated in text, but she lives in a futuristic China, and Marissa Meyer has said she's mixed race with brown hair and skin. She's also the kick ass cyborg you'd want to break you out of prison and save your planet and stuff.
Lola's dads from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
Actual best YA parents
Nico Di Angelo from The Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordan
NICO <333
Bonus: Clarke Griffin and Bellamy Blake and Raven Reyes from The 100
hi watch The 100 please thank you for POC and bisexual leads and disabled characters THANX
Love so many of these books. Lola and the Boy Next Door and To All the Boys I've Loved Before are particular favorites.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you added that nice little bonus in there. :) Everyone should just do themselves a favor and watch The 100 asap. I haven't read all of these, and the ones I haven't are all on my TBR. But the rest? Agree so much! Ronan Lynch. <33 Shazi, the sassiest future president. Can't believe I forgot about Rhy. LOVE Kenji! And Lola's Dads are amazing.
ReplyDeleteI am LOVING your list. I've read some of these, and added more to my TBR list. :)
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
So many of my favorites and so many I didn't know featured a diverse character! I will definitely be bumping up some of these on my TBR! Great list!
ReplyDeleteHere's my TTT
I VERY MUCH APPROVE OF YOU STARTING WITH RONAN LYNCH BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY. I ALSO REALLY LIKE HOW YOU CLOSE THIS LIST. (not that the stuff in between isn’t also awesome, but WAY TO OPEN AND CLOSE ON A HIGH NOTE)
ReplyDeleteWow! This is a HUGE list! I've never heard of Fire, but it looks AWESOME! Thanks for the suggestions! The Wrath and the Dawn is actually on my bookshelf and I really need to get around to reading it! :D Great list!
ReplyDeleteHere are my Top Ten!
These are some great choices! Cinder made it onto my TTT as well. Almost everyone has The Wrath and the Dawn on their TTT, I definitely have to check that book out :)
ReplyDeleteI mean, seriously, you've included some of my all-time favorites on this list! I love seeing Lola's dads, Nico, Cinder, Kenji, Lara Jean, Angela and Elisa all together. I would scoop them all up into a hug, even though I just KNOW that Nico and Kenji are going to whine while I do ;)
ReplyDeleteRonan, Kenji, and Lola's dads! Yes!!!
ReplyDeleteEveryone is making me desperate to read Fire! I really had no clue she was a bisexual PoC until this topic! How sad!
Here's my top ten!
Oh man, Cath is my baby and anybody who touches her will feel my wrath. (I'd say the same for Kenji, except knowing him, he'd probably be rather offended at the notion of needing anybody's wrath to protect him. ;)) Wonderful list, and now you've added yet another (!) entry to my list of reasons why I need to watch The 100 immediately, pronto, ASAP. People keep raving about it, but I still haven't gotten around to seeing it...
ReplyDeleteLove Ronan! And Nico of course!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT: https://jjbookblog.wordpress.com/2015/07/21/top-ten-tuesday-14/
I heart your list. And Much. And you. And now I'm super extra curious about Fangirl because of how you described Cath and I need to get my butt in gear and finally read it.
