Top Ten Books I Plan to Read on the Beach

hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

HEY GUYS! Long time no blog! I took a nice hiatus so I could catch up on real life stuff (like omg I think I might have found a place to live??? STAY TUNED) and recharge, blogging-wise, and now I'm raring to go and bursting with words and all that jazz.

And since it's summer (AHHH SUMMER I LOVE SUMMER!) and I live in Los Angeles and the beach is like right there, I'm totally planning to go as often as I can. Here are the books on my summer TBR that I'm planning to take with me and that will be best enjoyed while sipping a cool beverage on a hot beach listening to the crash of the waves.

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
Slightly cheating since I'm reading this one right now (veeeery slowly. Definitely am in a rut) but here's hoping I make it to the beach before I finish it.

Girl Against the Universe by Paula Stokes
PAULA SWOONS plus tennis boys plus A+ mental health rep = Gillian will mostly likely devour this in one sitting

Wanderlost by Jen Malone
I hear (from trusted sources) this is the fluffiest shippiest shipfest and full of summer travel goodness

The Square Root of Summer by Harriet Reuter Hapgood
I know this book isn't really fluffy or summery but it does have summer in the title

Outrun the Moon by Stacey Lee
I loved Lee's debut and have desperately needed more historical reads in my life lately

Summer of Sloane by Erin L. Schneider
I mean there's a beach RIGHT THERE ON THE COVER

And I Darken by Kiersten White
Because nothing says chilling on the beach like BLOODSHED

The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye
Because nothing says sipping margaritas by the sea than SNOWY RUSSIA

This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab
Because nothing says bonfires and sunbathing like MONSTERS

Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman
Because nothing says swimsuits and sunshine like PROBABLY SOBBING YOUR FACE OF/SPACEMURDER PROBABLY ALSO

And these two three are GILLIAN FAIL options:

Written in Red (The Others #1) by Anne Bishop
I KNOW. I technically started this months ago, but I have very fickle reading muses and they don't like to be dictated to and I guess they were just not in the mood for this book when I tried to force them. EVEN THOUGH I LIKED WHAT I READ. I swear, those muses. I WILL read this this summer. I will I will I willlll

Reread The Falconer by Elizabeth May so I can read The Vanishing Throne
I am a colossal FAILURE (sorry Ellis). I started my reread months ago and stalled out halfway, but I absolutely CANNOT jump to the sequel (which Ellis assures me is Grade A sublime and full of the shiptasticness we like and lady bamfs) until I finish the Falconer because I remember...well, I remember there were falcons? Oh wait. No, there weren't falcons. No falcons. See why I need to reread?

  5. Your reason for And I Darken is perfect! I saw Wanderlost on a couple other lists and it sounds really interesting, definitely adding it to my lookout list!

  7. I hear you, I am going through a crazy reading slump. But I did read The Star-Touched Queen and really liked it, and a few others on your list are on my TBR pile. Happy reading!

  9. Star Touched Queen is going to happen soon (when I will be emotionally prepared for the story) and OMG you have to read Written in Red ASAP. I think you'll like the series a lot and OMG THE BEST SHIP OF ALL SHIPS THAT'S A VERY SLOW BURN ROMANCE AND JUST UGH (and you have like four books to pine through).

  10. I haven't yet read The Crowns Game- it keeps popping up in my recommendations though! Thoughts?

  11. Wanderlost is the PERFECT beach read! Like honestly, it's fluffy and fun and just the kind of book I could totally see myself devouring while I'm sitting on the beach in the sunshine ;)
