Book Haul, or the One In Which I Come Home to All the Mail

One of the best things about going on vacation is returning home to a healthy stack of mail. It's extra exciting for book bloggers (and online shopaholics... *looks around innocently*) because that mail usually includes PACKAGES! Yes, I came home from two weeks in New York City to find a lovely and towering heap of books:

Book Outlet was having a HUGE sale, so I got a bunch of books from there, plus some gifts, an ARCycling package, and review books!

The books:

Pizza, Love and Other Stuff That Made Me Famous by Kathryn Williams
I heard this was a better version of Taste Test. Plus, it's clearly about food, there's a sassy girl in an apron on the cover, and it was like 2 dollars. Obvious buy.

The Gathering Storm by Robin Bridges
I've heard very mixed things about this series, but it was also on sale, and necromancer girl in Tsarist Russia. This book was made for me. NECROMANCER GIRL IN TSARIST RUSSIA. Possibly maybe in love with the middle son of Alexander III (that... will not go well, dear). We'll see. Anyway, the geek in me is exciiiiiited.

Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith
So, I didn't request this one for pretty shallow reasons: because I HATE bugs, and I HATE the cover. That green! So hideous! So poisonous! Well, it showed up anyway, and it turns out the cover isn't actually that nauseatingly green. Plus, this book sounds like a total crazypants acid trip, which could be fun.

Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan
I know nothing about this other than the fact that it was SUPAH CHEAP and now it's mine.

Stardust by Neil Gaiman
I love love LOOOOVE the movie adaptation of this book, and I was so happy to win this from my most favoritest Snuggly Orange, Debby, so I can finally read it!

Bang by Lisa McMann
True story: I got accepted for this on Edelweiss. Then I let the galley expire like the brilliant time manager I am. But this story has a happy ending, for lo, this book was on ARCycling, so snag it I did. The end.

My Life Undecided by Jessica Brody
Another book on super sale, another book that looks cute and fun and oh-so-readable.

Love Me: A Starstruck Novel by Rachel Shukert
Haven't read the first book, Starstruck, yet, but it sounds hilarious and fun and my mom is a really big fan of Rachel Shukert, so I'll be getting to both books soon. I hope.

The Summer I Wasn't Me by Jessica Verdi
LGBT romance! Yay! I'm really, really excited for this one.

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
I love this book so incredibly much. I've been dying to get a hard copy of it, and Gaby basically bullied me into getting this gorgeous signed hardcover. It is shimmery and swirly and I hugged it a lot and stroked it and pressed it lovingly to my cheek like an extremely normal person.

Moth and Spark by Anne Leonard
Adult fantasy! Princes, dragons, war, and romance! Plus a totally gorgeous cover.

The dog, who was very happy to see her master return:

  3. Ooo, Glow - I really liked it! The third book and final book in the series is coming out next week I believe. I thought the MC Waverly was pretty kick ass. And all the action is happening between two ships in space. Hope you like it!

  5. First. This post made me laugh....a lot. It had to be said.

Second. I want to come home to ALL THE BOOKS! Especially if they are half as awesome as all the ones you got. My TBR pile is taking a beating but that's ok right?! :)

  6. Such a great haul here, GIllian! I'll confess, I don't have any nor have I read any of these but I am excited to hear your thought as always. Ginger is a meek lookig special baby. I just told Shiloh that Ginger was cuter than her and she stomped off to my bedroom. I don't actually THINK she understand English but if she does, I should just run out into traffic. :D

  13. You got The Raven Boys!!!! And a signed copy! I'm happy for you.~ I only have a signed copy of The Dream Thieves, and no matter how much I want the first title of The Raven Cycle, I can't spare much to get it. T_T Thank goodness for public libraries, though.

Hope you have fun reading and re-reading. (:
