Ladies and gentleman, girls and boys, bloggers and booklovers, booksellers and book connoisseurs – welcome to PierceFest!
What is PierceFest?
PierceFest is the brainchild of a conversation between Alexa (of Alexa Reads Books) Gaby (of Queen Ella Bee Reads), Rachel (of Rachel Reads), and me, Gillian, the ravishing creature standing before you. We bonded over our mutual love for Tamora Pierce and her books and started reminiscing about the good old days when we devoured every novel she had to offer us. (I distinctly remember staying up all night--literally, all night, no sleeping-- to finish the final book in The Song of the Lioness quartet.) Even though Ms. Pierce is a well-known name, we certainly felt like it would be a fun idea to celebrate Tamora Pierce and her amazing novels – and thus, PierceFest was born!
During PierceFest, we will be celebrating all the books Ms. Pierce has written that have been published so far (and that’s a grand total of 27, not including her short story collection). Each month, one of the hosts will be spotlighting a series on her blog. There will be reviews, discussion posts, polls and other special and fun posts! There will also be one amazing giveaway (which you’ll find out more about later).
What does the schedule look like?
PierceFest will be running from May-September, finishing up in time for the release of Battle Magic in October. The actual schedule is as follows:
May: Kick-off Post (this is it!) + Song of the Lioness quartet (hosted by Gillian right here!)
June: The Immortals quartet (hosted by Gaby)
July: Circle of Magic/Circle Opens/Circle Reforged (hosted by Alexa)
August: Protector of the Small (hosted by Rachel)
September: Trickster duo/Beka Cooper trilogy + Wrap-up Post (all 4 blogs)
How can I participate?
The easy answer to this, of course, is to read along with us as we tackle each series! If you’re a Pierce newbie, then this will be the perfect time for you to start reading the series and getting to know her work. And if you’re a long-time Pierce fan, this will be a fun avenue to discuss the books and the characters and the general awesomeness that surrounds Tamora Pierce! Either way, we hope you join us. You can use the official hashtag #PierceFest when chatting on Twitter about all things Tamora Pierce – we’ll be around and ready to chat with you!
If you’re interested in participating in the event in a contributor capacity, please feel free to send an email. For general inquiries and the like, you can email Alexa [ alexalovesbooks (at) gmail (dot) com ]. For specific series info or interest, you can go and email the various hosts in charge of that series.

Don't just take our word for it!
We're not the only huge Tamora Pierce fans out in the blogging community. It's wonderful to realize that there are so many of us who love her. Here's what a few other people had to say about Ms. Pierce - and you better believe it's all good things!
Jen from Almost Grown-Up: "Kick-ass female heroines, unbelievable levels of world-building, and magic that enthralls. What's not to love about Tamora Pierce's work?"
Amy from Tripping Over Books: "It took me some time to find my way to Tamora Pierce, and I'm both so glad that I finally did and sad that I didn't find her sooner. Her stories are full of young girls and young women defying the expectations of their gender and forging their own paths; they're so special. Spending time with Tamora's characters in Tortall--a vibrant, well-fashioned world--is one of my favorite things to do."
Anna from I Am Here For This: "I've been reading and re-reading Tamora Pierce's books since I was twelve, and 15 years later, she's remains #1 on my list of Authors Whose New Books I Will Buy & Read Immediately. She taught me both to love high fantasy and to appreciate the unique pleasure of reading about smart, talented, willful women and girls who do amazing things, and if I ever get to meet her in person, I fully expect to burst into tears."
Sarah (Twitter handle: @SarahO97): "I first fell in love with Tamora Pierce's books by randomly discovering the Immortals series in my local library at the age of 12. Ever since, I've found myself enamored with the magical realm of Tortall and its inhabitants."
So yes-- May shall be Song of the Lioness month here at Writer of Wrongs!
So yes-- May shall be Song of the Lioness month here at Writer of Wrongs!
I could not resist. |
The month in which I shall write many odes to all things Alanna, talk about the awesome things her character has done for all her lady character descendants, and, MOST IMPORTANT, settle the issue of that love triangle once and for all. And for you Alanna newbies, or folks who need a memory refresher, I'll be doing mini reviews/recaps of each book!
I'm in love with you. IT'S GONNA BE MAY INDEED.
ReplyDeleteIT'S GONNA BE THE BEST MAY EVER.
DeleteOh My Gawd. Best Fest ever!!! I found Tamora through my kindle recommendations and became obsessed with her writing. Love Love Love her stuff!
ReplyDeleteSometimes the kindle really, truly does know what's best for us.
DeletePierceFest is here! PierceFest is here! *runs around like a crazy person, trips over a stack of books, gets up and starts running in circles* I cannot express how EXCITED I am about this event. It is going to be such an honor to host it with you - and I'm excited for Alanna month!
ReplyDeletebahahaha I just laughed for like a minute. I TOO AM VERY EXCITED
DeleteI LOVE Tamora Pierce for so many reasons. She's a fellow Syracusan and an iconic writer. I discovered the Alanna series only a few years ago and loved it. It really helped me figure out how to write my female characters better! I presently reading "Sandry's Book."
ReplyDeleteTamora's female characters are just WONDERFUL. You're right-- they really are like a starter course for "how to write the fantasy female". In fact, all her characters are brilliant, because they're distinct.
DeleteI've always wanted to read Pierce, but never had the time. Pierce Fest may just change that and what better way to start her books than with a group of dedicated readers?
ReplyDeleteOoh, this is such a fun idea! I've read her Protector of the Small series but none of the others. I've heard so much about them that I think it's time I change that!
ReplyDeleteI've read the Trickster series & really enjoyed it, so you could call me a longtime fan. :)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to reading more with Pierce Fest!
Tamora Pierce is my standard late-night-can't-sleep-need-something-reliable-next-to-bed author. Loved all the books since I was 12 (there's not many people I can admit that too, but I feel like I'm in good company here)!
ReplyDeleteI love love love tamora pierce, I first discover her books in grade 5 with the immortals, lost them, and rediscovered them in grade 8 with protector of the small
ReplyDeleteThis is so excting!
ReplyDeleteI'm a newbie to Tamora Pierce in that I haven't read any of her books yet (very ashamed!), but I've heard of her for years and years and have been meaning to get around to reading her books--I think I get intimidated by completed series like hers, so I've pushed back reading them. But I WILL read one soon!!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely a long time fan, I read my first Pierce book in Year 5, and it's what got me into reading. (:
ReplyDeleteOH MY GOD! This is the best thing everrrrr. I'm a long time Tamora Pierce fan. I'm so excited about this I CAN'T EVEN
ReplyDeleteWHY IS IT ONLY MAY AND I HAVE ONLY JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THIS???? Tamora Pierce is one of my ALL TIME FAVES. I read her a long time ago, and devoured the Song of the Lioness books in less than a weekend. They were the first books I felt any feels for. THE FEELS. JON. Oh God, I can't even. Can't even.
ReplyDeleteI'm so trolling your blog and going through all the Alanna stuff. It was my fave series, I have to admit I haven't read the Beka Cooper ones, but I loved the Kel series too. Total badass.
And the best thing? TAMORA PIERCE IS COMING TO MY CITY. SHE IS STAYING IN MY HOTEL. I CAN'T BREATHE.
Anyway, fangirling over.
I love Tamora Pierce! I got my first book by her in a book exchange--it was fate!
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan. Alanna is what got me into YA when I discovered it 3 years ago and now I have read all of her Tortall books :)
ReplyDeleteLove Tamora Pierce. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and love that she has written several specifically designed for audiobook performance. I am having a lot of fun sharing some of her earlier works with my fantasy obsessed 4th grade son
ReplyDeleteThis should be a reoccuring thing!! I'm bummed that I wasn't blogging when you did this read along!
