Disney Princesses + Books

So apparently in the wild jungles of Booktube land, a locale I am mostly unfamiliar with, there is a THING called the Disney Princess Tag apparently started by... this person? I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS PLACE WORKS. But anyway. Ellis from The Random Transliterator and Finding Bliss in Books told me about it and said I had to do it ON PAIN OF DEATH and since I'm pretty fond of living I figured I'd give it a shot.

(FYI, that piece of plastic behind my mountain range of book stacks is NOT the lining of Dexter's murder lair. It's a really big painting that's been protectively wrapped. Just so you know.)

Why, Youtube? Why must you always choose the most unfortunate freeze frames?

Books mentioned:

Anna and Elsa from Frozen
A book featuring siblings: Mind Games by Kiersten White

Rapunzel from Tangled
A book that made me emotional: Allegiant by Veronica Roth, Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi (those Veronica R's are brutal), Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

Merida from Brave
A book featuring a female warrior: Graceling by Kristin Cashore, Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, Lioness Rampant by Tamora Pierce

Tiana from The Princess and the Frog
A book featuring realistic struggles: If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch, The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson

Belle from Beauty and the Beast
A book that is a classic: I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith, Howard's End by E.M. Forster.

Pocahontas from Pocahontas
A book featuring nature: Wolf Speaker by Tamora Pierce

Jasmine from Aladdin
A book featuring the desire to be free: The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski

Mulan from Mulan
A book featuring war or battles: Lioness Rampant by Tamora Pierce, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling, Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld.

Ariel from The Little Mermaid
A book featuring curiosity or learning: Matilda by Roald Dahl

Cinderella from Cinderella
A book featuring manual labor: Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Aurora from Sleeping Beauty
A book featuring sleep: The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

Snow White from Snow White
A book featuring one of the seven deadly sins (lust, in my case): Ignite Me by Taherah Mafi

BONUS!

Megara from Hercules
A book featuring Greek myths: The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan.

Maid Marian from Robin Hood
A book featuring a canine: New Moon by Stephenie Meyer

Nala from The Lion King
A book featuring a feline: In the Hand of the Goddess by Tamora Pierce.

Yes, I realized I grabbed a Tamora Pierce book for a good deal of these. What's the problem?

  1. AAAAAAAAA!!!!! I HAVE INSPIRED A THING. This means I have OFFICIALLY ARRIVED. I love it so. I habanaad my way through this, and I'm talking back-arching, choke-laughing, need-to-catch-breath-soon-because-otherwise-death habanaing.

Eh, Booktube. Who the hell knows how that works, really? It is a mystical realm.

ALSO YAAAAAAAYYY YOUR FACE IT IS BAAAAACK.

"Issues like being dropped on the floor." --> much cachinnating ensued

Your "a book that made me emotional" face is to die for. EEP. I love that you showed your entire shelf/stack when you had to choose a classic. Just like it happened in the realm of gchat *wipes away tear*

YES. NATURE. I told you it was hard. Hahaha, you're impression of me. I was like WAIT WHAT IS HAPPENING? Okay, so I did go back to see what I actually said:

"the nature book is going to be a pain, though"

I sound so calm and boring. I like your impression better. I SPY THE FALCONER IN THE BACKGROUND. I don't know why I yelled that. I mean, I do, but you don't. Yet. So fix that.

THE DREAM THIEVES. Perfect choice, because yes sleep and yes Ronan and yessss sleeping with Ronan I may have dreamed about this once or twice maybe I do not know.

I'm quite disappointed you didn't pick Unravel Me for the canine. Warner pets a dog, after all. The same for manual labour and these broken stars. Or Gossip Girl for realistic struggles. Much relatable.

But for serious, this was/is/will always be perfect. In my mind, you have tagged Meg, because she needs to show her face and it would show she listened to the survey where people said they want a stronger connection between bloggers and ze booktube. So. It has been decided.

  2. Wait…are you saying it isn’t normal to have a Dexter murder layer?

Fun fact, when Ellis said ‘Disney Princess Book Tag’ I saw ‘Gillian Gillian Gillian tag’

Hahahahahaha book that made you emotional = favorite response. “I read with my feels” <—YES

WHOA. CLASSICS STACK. CLASSICS CHIMNEY. MOUNT CLASSICS.

    HABANAPRAMMEN ELLIS IMPRESSION

I need to reread Matilda so bad. “Do you know how many times as a child I tried to move things with my eyeballs?” ME TOO. I used to sit around and stare ferociously at things. It was all very strange.

    THE DREAM THIIIIIIIEEEEEEVES.

    AND RONAAAAAAAAN

SLEEPING WITH RONAN. OOER AND PHWOAR.

"SHE SHOULD’VE KEPT JACOB AS A PET" LOLOLOLOLOL

Maybe I’ll do this. One day. While drunk. Because cameras. No promises though.

I am vair, vair glad Ellis inspired you, this was brilliant.

    1. "Maybe I'll do this. While drunk." YES PLEASE. I mean, CB kind of allows for that sort of thing. I'm going to interpret this as a promise. Gillian has now officially tagged you.

  3. You totally could have picked The Girl of Fire and Thorns for a nature book!

  4. Ooooh fun! I'll have to watch the vlog when I'm off work but I love the books and reasons you chose them for each princess!! Disney mashed up with anything is automatically my favorite, especially when it's mashed with books! :) I like that you didn't always go for the obvious too, like Scarlet for Maid Marian or Cruel Beauty for Belle.

  5. Basically, when it comes to Tamora Pierce, you can never, ever, EVER go wrong. I am also obsessed with this tag (because HELLO DISNEY PRINCESSES!), and the fact that I have read most of the books you suggested (though I should totally work on the ones for Anna & Elsa, Tiana and Belle)!

  6. I JUST WATCHED THIS AGAIN AND IT MADE ME VERY HAPPY. I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THE COMPLETELY INACCURATE ELLIS IMPERSONATION BUT THAT ALSO MADE ME VERY HAPPY.

  7. This seems like the best book tag EVER. I'm not a book tuber, but man this one may be too good to pass up lol Great picks! And I LOVED your video. I had to snort in my coffee to keep from getting caught on Youtube at work!
