Top Ten 2015 Character Costumes

hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
This TTT topic was a Halloween freebie, so I decided to revisit the Halloween topic I did last year: literary character costumes! I chose to focus on characters from 2015 releases, and it was super tough to narrow down my faves (for example, I really wanted to do a Shahrzad from The Wrath and the Dawn costume, but couldn't figure out how to do that not in a culture appropriation-y way, alas) (Here's last year's list, featuring Cath, Lola, Alina, Blue, Celaena, Kami Glass, Cinder, Alanna, Annabeth, and Elizabeth Bennet costumes)

Mareena Titanos from Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard
You can feel like the fanciest fake silver in all the land, channelling your inner Mare Barrow by also pretending to be Lady Mareena Titanos. With a splash of red on the nails, because Mare can never forget what she truly is (AND ALSO BC IT LOOKS SUPER COOL)

Kell from A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
It is nigh impossible to find a coat as epically awesome as Kell's in real life, but it's totally worth trying.

Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
MY FAVORITE, PRECIOUS DIRTYHANDS. You too can be dapper af this Halloween, striding around town in Barrel style. Don't forget your (possibly illegal) lock picks and that super secret R tattoo

Tanith from The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey
Bloody, ambitious, warrior dragon queen. YES PLS.

Simon Spier from Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
A blue heart on his phone for Blue, a blue laptop so he can always be in touch with Blue, HP nerdiness, and Oreo goodness.

Willowdean Dickson from Dumplin' by Julie Murphy
There is nobody fiercer than Willowdean Dickson.

Feyre from A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
I think of all the costumes, this is the one I want to wear the most.

Kady Grant from Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
Pink-haired hacker girl with guts of STEEL (plus fancy futuristic hacker headphoney things) (I don't actually know how hacking works)

Lee Westfall from Walk on Earth a Stranger by Rae Carson
THERE'S GOLD IN THEM THAR COSTUME

  1. Cool pick for this week's topic. I don't celebrate Halloween so I never dress up as characters. But it's nice to see those literary character costumes. Tanith and Mareena look fierce.

  2. This is so cool! Um, the costume you've picked out for Kaz...that alone makes me want to read Six of Crows now. LOL That crown for Mareena is gorgeous. If I buy that for a costume, I can always wear it around the house afterwards, right? While I do the laundry? :D

  3. I've never read these books, but you totally have me wanting to read them just from these awesome collages/costumes! Especially A Darker Shade of Magic because Kell looks very interesting. And Six of Crows because I could really use a man who dresses that perfectly in my life :-P

  6. The 'Court of Thorns and Roses' costume looks gorgeous - really need to read that book! I went with a similar list this week (although my costumes are all a bit more generic, haha) : http://basedonthebook.blogspot.co.uk/2015/10/top-ten-tuesday-liter-scary-halloween.html

  7. Great topic. I love Feyre's the best (even though she annoyed me) and the western one. Thanks for sharing your great ideas!

  8. I would totally dress up as Feyre if I thought I could pull it off (and I think I'd need longer hair to do that)! Right now, I'm gravitating towards dressing like Lee, because (a) awesome costume, and (b) I just loved that book. (Also, I'd like to get my husband dressed up as Kaz!)

  13. Tanith is the only one from a book I've read and IT IS FILLED WITH YES. The others are so gorgeous, they're making me want to read the books even more than I did before this post. Thanks!

  14. OMGOMGOMGOMG KADY! LEAH! FEYRE! But nothing, NOTHING will beat that Simon outfit. I think I actually might have peed a bit laughing when I saw that shirt. And if a certain SO (coughBluecough) went with him....I think I would actually die.
