Book Haul, or the One Where I'm in a Wonderful Town!
That's right. I'm in New York City, baby! Home of publishing, dirty water hot dogs, the Great White Way, abominable weather, and a lot of people I love very much. (Luckily, I seem to have brought the California heat with me. Fingers crossed it stays warm! And then snows like the Dickens (HEH) on Christmas).
I'm still saving all the bookish holiday presents I've received for a gigantic present post after Christmas, but I got a couple of review books this week as well.
From PenguinTeen:
Half Bad by Sally Green
It took me an embarrassingly long time to see that face on the cover. But I'm extremely excited about this one, and the ARC is gorgeous. It's shimmery, and the letters are raised, and damn is the finished copy going to be spectacular.
The Forbidden Library by Django Wexler
This came unsolicited, but it looks like exactly my type of fantastical middle grade. Apparently it's about a girl named Alice who can venture INSIDE books? And there are monsters? YES.
From Random Buzzers:
Being Sloane Jacobs by Lauren Morill
Eeeeeee! I've been very eagerly anticipating this one. It should be pretty darn adorable, and it's about ice skating! The Cutting Edge (and all of its reincarnations) is only one of my favorite movies ever.

ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful time in New York! Half bad looks good, so happy reading :D
ReplyDeleteOOOh, awesome New York! I hope you're having a blast!
ReplyDeleteAnd Half Bad is in my TBR list!
I'd love to make it to New York someday(I did as a baby, but it doesn't count since I don't remember it!). Have a fantastic time and I hope you get your snow wish!
ReplyDeleteSo excited to read BEING SLOANE JACOBS!!!! And Half Bad looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteI didn't see the face on the Half Bad cover either, not until Christina pointed it out in her vlog. So don't feel bad! Lots of people missed the face on Crewel, which I think is much sillier!
ReplyDeleteI am SO jealous that you are in NY! It's on my bucket list to visit.
ReplyDeleteI read and really enjoyed Being Sloane Jacobs. It was a really cute read which I hope you like.
Happy Reading!
I think I'm the only person that hasn't heard about Half Bad. I didn't know it existed until everyone started getting copies. Now I'm very curious. Excited to read the early reviews! Have fun in New York!
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading Being Sloane Jacobs! It was such a cute, wintry read, and I liked it more than I liked Meant to Be -- which is to say I really, really liked it. Also, The Forbidden Library book looks so GOOD! I hope you wind up enjoying that one.
ReplyDeleteAlso - PLEASE tell me that we will meet up at some point while you are still in NYC! I'm sorry to have missed you today (darn living so far up north in the BX!). I'm hoping we can see each other tomorrow!
Half Bad has a dope cover! The real one will be amazing! Also I wish that I would have jumped on a plane and chilled with you guys in NYC, but have fun without me!

Nice haul! Half Bad looks amazing, it's on my wishlist and I can't wait to read it! I didn't realize Django Wexler had a new book coming out but The Forbidden Library sounds good so I'll look out for it next year.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your new books and happy reading :)
Enjoy NYC! The weather yesterday was UNREAL. Thanks for bringing the California heat! Haven't heard of Half Bad before now but I just finished Meant to Be and the writing was super cute! Enjoy your books!

Half Bad! Wow oh wow I can't wait for this one. I know it'll be awesome and I envy you for your ARC, lol. Also, enjoy NYC! I heard that they got a bit of a heat wave. Even Las Vegas is colder than NYC, apparently (which, honestly, it's not even that cold here so that's saying something). Happy reading!

New York welcomes you, Gillian! :) I'm from Queens and the busy life is rubbing off on me. So glad you had the time in coming over! Are you staying for Christmas?
ReplyDeleteI am soooo excited for Half Bad. I totally did not see that face either... SO WEIRD.
