Top Ten Books I Resolve To Read In 2013

hosted by The Broke and Bookish

I have so many books to read next year, mostly ones that are yet to come out. However, I've also been remiss in reading a whole bunch of books that have been out for ages, and these are a few of those books.

(OH! I'm also doing a New Year's Giveaway! You can win one 2013 book and one 2012 book, to celebrate moving away from the old and onto the new! Check it out.)

1. Divergent by Veronica Roth

I seriously, seriously cannot believe I haven't read this. This is probably the book that is most recommended to me by various bookish people. Well, all you Divergent pushers, I now OWN it, which means IT WILL BE READ. And I so look forward to it. I've heard marvelous things about this Four fellow.

2. Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Oh, I want to read this so, so badly. I don't own it yet, but I intend to buy it as soon as I can. That's another one that gets recommended to me left, right, and center.

3. Graceling by Kristen Cashore

I should just copy and paste all of the above and put it here. Graceling, though semi-recent, is clearly a fantasy classic already. And since I love fantasy, I know I'll love this. Plus I OWN IT now, along with a copy of Fire, so nothing's stopping me.

4. Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr

Once upon a time, when I was young and stupid, I thought I wouldn't really like to read a book about faeries. I don't know why I thought this, since I was obsessed with fairies as a kid and thought a whole fairy kingdom lived under my bed, but since those were the pretty pixie kind and the Wicked Lovely faeries were dark and frightening, I passed this book up. I regret this. I now have my greedy hands on a copy, and 2013 will be the year I finally read it.

5. Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

I can practically hear you all screaming at me for not having read this already. "YOU CALL YOURSELF A BOOK BLOGGER WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING WITH YOUR LIFE I QUESTION EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOUR CHOICES WOMAN." I accept your criticism. I gobbled up all of The Mortal Instruments series over the course of a week this summer (again, I was late to the party, I apologize). I can't wait to find time to start The Infernal Devices and get my heart broken about a million more times.

6. Matched by Ally Condie

Ditto literally every single book above. I heard about it, didn't have time to get to it, the whole series passed me by, everybody I know said, "Um, WTF, you'll love these, you idiot," and now I know I must read them.

7. The Demon's Lexicon by Sarah Rees Brennan

I loooooove Sarah Rees Brennan. Unspoken was easily among my top ten favorite reads of the year, I semi-stalk her on Twitter, and I just think she's the funniest ever. But I haven't read her previous series yet. I have a feeling I'll love it just as much as Unspoken and I'll draw fan art and engage in shipping wars and dream about the characters WHAT I don't do that.

8. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

This book looks like such a delight. I just know I'll love it, and can't wait to read it.

9. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy

Will this be the year? The year that I do it? The year that I climb the Mt. Everest of literary classics and officially get my Well Read Pretentious Snot badge? I so want to be an official WRPS, you guys.

10. Across the Universe by Beth Revis

The story of why I have never read this is actually tragic. I was on vacation on a boat with a copy of this book, and I was about twenty pages in when... I DROPPED MY BOOK INTO THE OCEAN. Yes, that happened. It was utterly heart wrenching watching my copy sink down to its watery grave (in Davy Jones' library). Somehow, I never got to buy another copy of this book, but in 2013 I resolve to do so.

What about you? What books do you resolve to read in the New Year? Leave links to your own TTT so I can come visit you, please!

  1. I love Tolstoy. Anna Karenina is awesome. I've also been meaning to read War and Peace.

Divergent and Matched are good, but Under the Never Sky is excellent. It was in my top three of this year. Definitely read that one.

I've also been meaning to read Anna and the French Kiss. I've heard incredible things about it.

    Great list!

Happy New Years and happy reading.

Here's the books I resolve to read

  4. Anna and the French Kiss and Graceling are ALSO on my list for the New Year!! I can't wait to read both of them either! Y'know what? We should read them at the same time and obsess over them together since EVERYONE had already done that. The same goes for Under the Never Sky and Across the Universe. Neither of those made it to my resolution list, but they're on my mind for SURE.

-->Basically I think I'm suggesting we start a book club for those who are behind on the times. We could think of a catchy name, attach a couple of gifs and have fun with it. I'm all about the fun.

    1. It's officially on the schedule. I'm participating in a challenge with a fellow blogger and she's FORCING me to read it (not that I really need to be forced). SO GRACELING IS HAPPENING!

  7. My jaw dropped when I saw you haven't read Anna and the French Kiss yet. READ IT. I have to admit, I was very skeptical at first because, well, the title of Anna and the French Kiss didn't sound so good to me. However, once I started reading the book, I couldn't stop. It's worth your time, trust me! (I hope I don't sound like a drama queen LOL.)

  8. Ah, Divergent is sooo good, one of my favorite series! I read Under the Never Sky, and wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be due to all the glowing reviews--it was just a good, but not great, book for me(though I seem to be rather alone on that opinion, so maybe you'll LOVE it!). I really need to read Anna and the French Kiss--it sounds like such a great fun read.

  9. I've read Anna, Divergent, Matched and Graceling lol, and while I didn't really care for them, they were compelling. My co-blogger loved them! Here's Ours

  10. OH MY GOSH, GILLIAN.

    Read Under the Never Sky.

    Now.

Then you must get your hands on the sequel and fall in love with Roar.

Now I will go back to reading the rest of your post since I frantically went to comment after I saw you haven't read Under the Never Sky. (I tried reading Anna and the French Kiss, but didn't get into it for whatever reason. I might have to try again. I did see this cover while scrolling rapidly.)

  11. Graceling is simple, but really thought-provoking fantasy. I really love what it says about social issues, gender roles and social institutions, and probably like it for that more than the fantasy elements (although the fantasy elements can be cool). I always like to see people picking it up. It was one of my favorite books when it came out. Although I did end up getting super angry at the Internet for their reaction to them, oops.

  12. Uhm.. WHAT?! You haven't read Graceling yet? And not Divergent either? Ahhhh. YOU MUST READ THEM! I would start with Graceling :) Then Divergent. Then Under the Never Sky. <3 All those three are perfect. Sigh. I hope you'll get to read all of these :) Enjoy them all sweetie :D Also. Clockwork Angel!!!! READ IT! :D And Across the Universe! Such a perfect book. <3
    Love, Carina

  13. I loved Anna and the French Kiss. Lovely! I've added more books to my List of Possibilities thanks to your post. I haven't read most of them either. So many books...so little time.

  14. So excited I actually dared you to read 2 of those! woo! <3

  15. New Follower! A great collection of books, a few in your lists are ones that I want to get through this year too.

Here's my Top Ten Tuesday post.

  16. I think if I dropped a book into the ocean I would cry. Or at least scowl a lot.

A bunch of these are on my list too- I've barely read any YA books this year, so I'm kinda far behind. Under the Never Sky and Across the Universe are pretty high on the list, on account of I already own them, but I promised myself I would finish Renegade before I start anything new (otherwise I end up halfway through 20 books at a time, which is my current manga situation), and it's... going slowly.

  17. Oh my GOSH!!! I had prepared myself for UtNS, but you haven't read GRACELING?! Maybe we've talked about this and I blocked it from my memory, but I LOVE GRACELING. *pets Po*

  18. DEFINITELY read Divergent. SO good. Of the books I haven't read, Graceling in the one I want to read the most. I have Wicked Lovely, but I haven't read it yet, either, haha.

  19. Okay, so all of these pretty much are must-reads but THE INFERNAL DEVICES. Get on that, like now. The last book comes out this year! (Unless Cassie Clare decides to once again extend the series by three books like TMI? lol)

  20. The only book that I've read on your list is Anna and the French Kiss. Majority of the books on your list are ones that I have been meaning to read as well. This includes Divergent, Matched, Clockwork Angel, Graceling, Under the Never Sky and Across the Universe. I want to read them all so badly and yet I sadly keep forgetting to get to them.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 1, 2, 4 and 5 are definitely ones that you must read. Under the Never Sky is amazing, Divergent is incredibly exciting. Wicked Lovely is a fantastic series, and Clockwork Angel is awesome! I will have to check out some of the other ones on your list!

  22. I have only read two books of your list but I seriously recommend to read Anna and the French Kiss! You will LOVE IT!
