1. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling (HARRY POTTER)
Duh.

2. The Amber Spyglass by Philip Pullman (His Dark Materials)
If you didn't cry at the end of this, there is something wrong with you.

3. The Bitter Kingdom by Rae Carson (The Girl of Fire and Thorns)
HECTORRRRRRRR (even though more people should have died, methinks. Because I might be a psychopath)

4. The Realms of the Gods/ Lioness Rampant by Tamora Pierce (The Immortals/Alanna)
Yes, I'm putting both on here. TRotG because KISS SCENE. And Lioness Rampant because EPIC. (Also my ship, it sails!)

5. Goliath by Scott Westerfeld
When slow-burning romances FINALLY IGNITE!

6. Forever Princess by Meg Cabot (The Princess Diaries)
Ditto above. Also, Mia got SO ANNOYING in the later books, but I felt this book was a real return to form. Also, Michael. End point.

ETA 7. Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein (Code Name Verity)
This may be blasphemous to some, but I think this gorgeous book is even better than its predecessor. *rips heart from chest* *places it on a silver platter* *presents to Ms. Wein as no longer requires feelings anymore*

Honorable mentions: Lirael by Garth Nix, Across a Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund (EXCEPT FOR THE PART WHERE IT JUST ENDS), Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me? by Louise Rennison, Queen of Babble Gets Hitched by Meg Cabot, Darkest Hour by Meg Cabot, Where She Went by Gayle Forman,

Bottom-Notch Series Enders* (not a word, but go with it)

1. Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer (Twilight)
Yeah, yeah, everybody (including me) hates this series. But when I read this book, I was a serious (if closet) Twihard, and even I was annoyed (AND REVOLTED) by some things that happened in this book. Also, talk about anti-climactic. THE MOVIE WAS BETTER. Also, it would be nice if Bella had to sacrifice something for her Happily Ever After.

2. Sisterhood Everlasting by Ann Brashares (Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants)
THIS BOOK NEVER HAPPENED. ERASE IT FROM YOUR MEMORY LOGS. THIS IS AN AFFRONT TO ALL THINGS PANTS-RELATED. I'M BOYCOTTING PANTS. GOT TELL ALL THE HOT GUYS IN THE WORLD THEY'RE NOT ALLOWED TO WEAR PANTS ANYMORE.

3. Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (The Hunger Games)
Why is everyone I love dead?

4. Mad About the Boy by Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones)
Just on principle. (Warning: MAJOR spoilers at the link)

*I don't really hate Mockingjay that much. And I know I said I loved brutal series enders, but really, Suzanne? Why you gotta do me like that?

  1. I didn't think about adding The Amber Spyglass, definitely a bittersweet ending there!

At first I was on the fence about the latest Bridget Jones title but the more I hear about it, the more I'm like "Nope" at this point. As far as I'm concerned her story ended with the second book =P

  2. I love how many we have in common and that our feelings are completely in sync regarding Sisterhood Everlasting aka the book that should never have happened.

  3. I MUST read the Girl with Fire and Thorns books. I have heard so many good things about them.

  4. Mockingjay is on my TTT for this week too! I didn't put it in worse but I did put it in my "Neither" category. It just didn't and still doesn't sit well with me for some reason.

  5. Great list. Mockingjay was just okay for me. A bit of a let down.

  6. Totally agree with you on Mockingjay. I mean REALLY SUZANNE? Gahhhh. Okay this is when I admit that I like Breaking Dawn the best out of the four Twilight books (although seeing as I hated them all, that's not saying much) but really aside from the creepy as HELL imprinting on a baby bullcrap,I liked it. Maybe because it meant the series was over?

As for the best, yup gotta completely agree with you on Deathly Hallows. Though I gotta say I seriously considered sending JKR my therapy bill after that one.

  7. This list is epic! I need to read The Bitter Kingdom asap, but I have other books I have to read first. And I have to admit that I kinda loved Mockingjay. I'm sorry I'm not sorry!

  8. Yes to all of these! ESPECIALLY Rae Carson and Suzanne Collins. Because REASONS.

  9. Hahaha, Are These My Basoomas I See Before Me? Now I know for my ship sails. Louise had it coming otherwise. I always have to laugh with this title because one of my friends once mistyped it as "Are These My Bazookas I See Before Me?" Things just got very real in the Georgiaverse.

Okay, what else. I still have to read Sisterhood Everlasting, even though I know what's going to happen, just not to whom. I second the no-pants-for-you motion. I never finished HP or the Princess Diaries. It was seriously not funny what Mockingjay did to my tear ducts. I need to make work of those Tamora Pierce books. I'll probably have time for them somewhere in May or something. Great list!

  10. I don't understand how anyone could say that the end of Harry Potter wasn't perfect. Clearly they are wrong. I'm with you on Mockingjay, both for your reasons and because Katniss absolutely killed me in this book, I thought she was so infuriatingly reactionary, more so then in the previous ones.

    (Also, HECTOORRRR)

  11. I am super excited to read The Girl of Fire and Thorns!! I have the first 2 books, but have been nervous because of all the hype! I always worry when people tell me how much I will love certain books!
I need to read Rose Under Fire too. Elizabeth Wein crushed my heart though! I need to be in the right mood. Looking forward to it though!

  12. Awesome list Gillian :D Ah, The Amber Spyglass.. SOBS. So good, though. Harry Potter. <3 Lots of awesome books on your list :)

  13. I've read the first three books in the Immortals series, and The Realms of the Gods is next! I can't wait to read it! And there's a kiss scene? Yes! :)

  14. So basically....everything. Just everything. Particularly your favourite series enders!

And SotTP...I maaaay have sort of on purpose accidentally looked up the synopsis of Sisterhood Everlasting and just WHAT?!?!? WHAT IS THIS?? So I will never read that ever. And it never happened. Nor did the 4th book. That series is a trilogy!

  15. Haha! Yes, just on principle regarding the newest Bridget Jones book. Totally agree. I was so tempted to write "duh" after HP 7 on my TTT, too, but I do that so often, I thought I would change things up a bit.

Oh my gosh, yes to the Amber Spyglass! I think the only other series finale that I liked more that Spyglass was Harry Potter.

I actually don't hate the Twilight series. I'm not a Twihard, and never was, and I did find Breaking Dawn a bit mediocre, but I don't hate the series at all.

  16. I totally agree with this list! Hector + Elisa = ALL THE FEELS in The Bitter Kingdom!
    -Scott Reads It!

  17. Ahahaha! Yes, the His Dark Materials series- I wept. So hard.
Also, I LOVE the new header...it's like a Where's Waldo of awesome YA books! :D
