Book Haul, or the One Where IT'S NOVEMBER (HOW?)

Happy November 1/All Saints' Day/NaNoWriMo kickoff! If you're a NaNoer like me (aka one of the thousands of poor souls participating in the masochistic blood sport that is National Novel Writing Month), you are probably working on digesting the twelve pounds of Reese's peanut butter cups in your stomach, pouring out a biiiig cup of coffee, and setting up shop at the computer to crank out those first (dreadful) 1,667 words. If not, you're lucky! You'll probably sleep this November! Except then you'll remember that it's already November, which means that October is over, which means that it's almost December, which means it is almost 2015, which means we are living in the god damn FUTURE and soon cars will fly and aliens will come and it's all one step closer to DEATH, my friends.

Happy Saturday?

Ahem. So. Books happened, and these were them:

From Macmillan for review:

Flirty Dancing by Jenny McLachlan
Dirty Dancing is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I am physically incapable of resisting this title, especially since it's drawn comparisons to Georgia Nicolson, aka my queen.

Loop by Karen Akins
Adorable fluffy time travel book! yes please!

Girls of Many Lands books, Isabel: Taking Wing and Cecile: Gates of Gold
MY YOUUUUUTH! When I was a mini Gillian, I read every single American Girl book there was. The regular ones, the historical mysteries, the scrapbooks, YOU NAME IT. So when they came out with the Girl of Many Lands series, aka books about girls who lived in (you guessed it) other lands, I totally had to have them. Isabel is set in Elizabethan London in the 1590's and has genderbending and playhouses, and Cecile is set during the Sun King's rain in 18th century France. I even had Isabel and Cecile dolls as a kid, so when I saw these books in the used out-of-print section of The Strand, I HAD TO HAVE THEM. Squeee.

Winterspell by Claire Legrand
I found a used copy of this brand new release, and it is soooooo shiiiiiiiny. Honestly, this is one of the prettiest books I've ever held. Don't look at it for too long or it may bewitch you into servitude.

The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall
Squee! This book sounds like my jam.

Suspicion by Alexandra Monir
English estates. Suspicious, possibly paranormal happenings. A gorgeous cover. I am in.

I reviewed (AND LOVED) The Demon King by Cinda Williams Chima
I was on the blog tour for Atlantia by Ally Condie. Review and giveaway!

Looking Forward: November, a round up of the November releases I'm most looking forward to

  1. Well, your intro was unexpectedly morbid!

I was considering doing NaNo but I don't think I should force myself into more stress this month. Maybe I'll do Camp in the summer XD

    1. I'm just keepin' it real, Amber. Just keepin' it real.

  2. Have I thanked you lately for cracking me up? THANK YOU. I'm on the couch, sick as a dog, and you just made me laugh so hard it set off a coughing fit (which, you know, is worth laughter). Good luck with the bloodsport (dreadful those 1,667 first words may be, but a heck of a lot easier than hitting the beginning of week 3 *shudder*).

  3. Good luck on NaNo! I'm skipping it this year again, but I joined in on the November '12 session and had tons of fun :D And of course - way too much chocolate and coffee.

Winterspell enchanted me even before I picked it up - now I'm just a willing slave to its charms xD

  4. Such great books! Happy reading!

  5. Your intro just made my day. And yes, I do think of things like that on a regular basis. Cars flying, impending death and such? Regular thoughts in this brain.
Good luck with NaNoWriMo, I did it last year and (thank GOD) am too busy to do it this year (I have a suspicion I will sleep and am so excited!).
I hope Flirty Dancing is as awesome as it looks :)

  6. WINTERSPELL. <3 Read it. Love it. NOW. But omg. Used copy? :( I cannot do used, lol. But ohh. Was it cheaper then? That is good. :) But yeah. It is stuuuunning. Anyway. Happy reading Gillian. <3
