ISLA IS HEEEEERE! *blows trumpets* *tosses confetti*When Meg, Judith, Jamie, Lindsey and Andi asked me to be a part of the official #IslaisComing tour, I replied with YESYESOMGYES because Stephanie Perkins is my jam, yo. She's a wizard, her books cause me to issue sounds as yet unmade by humans (see: my review), and few things make me happier than she shippity ship ships.
Once of the things I love most about her books (besides the swoooooons, bien sur) is how real all the characters feel to me. They have hopes, dreams, fears, and passions. Josh, the adorable boy that Isla is crushing on big time in Isla and the French Kiss, is an artist. It's not just what he loves to do, but it's who he is. Isla doesn't know what she wants to do in life, and feels very much like a blank canvas next to Josh, who is full of creativity and drive.
Some of you know that I like to draw and paint and sketch. Because of this, I could relate to Josh and his fundamental need to draw so much. I know what it's like to need to create things. But like Isla, I've gone through those periods of doubt and uncertainty about what my calling is and who I am. I've gone through ups and downs with art, and it's really only recently that I've rediscovered this passion for it and committed to doing it a whole bunch more. (Basically, we can all thank the internet gods for the existence of fan art, since it's reawoken the artistic beast who's been slumbering for so long. I learned I can combine two of the things I love most: books and art!)
SO THANKS, JOSH, YOU ADORABLE LITTLE CREATIVE GENIUS!

I feel like so many of us can relate to both Isla and Josh, especially those of us who are book bloggers and create content on a daily basis.

Definitely Lola for her awkwardness and her family issues, but also Anna in some ways :)
ReplyDeletethank you!
Your artwork is beautiful!! :)
I'm not sure I relate to any of the characters specially, but Isla & Josh as a couple are the relationship I relate to the most somehow.
ReplyDeleteI think that I relate to Anna the most ♥ Thank you so much for the amazing giveaway!
ReplyDeleteLOVE ALL OF THESE DESIGNS! You're like your own Josh! I love that you can draw and you've captured them perfectly! I think the Anna designs are kickass...and I NEED that Happily Ever After quote!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your artwork! And your blog! I can't say for sure which character I relate to the most, since I haven't had a chance to crack open my copy of Isla yet :( the anticipation is killing me, haha.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
I am kinnnd of obsessed with the Anna, Lola, Isla tote...it's absolutely gorgeous! I think the character I most relate to is Isla. It took me a while to discover my self-worth as well, and I recognized so many of the thoughts and feelings she had throughout the book.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for such a wonderful giveaway!
HOLLA AT THE CONTEST AND YOUR MAD SKILLZ YO.
ReplyDeleteSo far, I'd say Anna is the one I relate the most to because of her quirky, a little uncertain but a lot awesome personality.
Thanks for this wonderful giveaway, all of the designs are wonderful! I can't say I relate to any of the characters in particular because I have yet to read the series (soon, I hope), but the premises sound wonderful :)
ReplyDeleteI think the character I could mostly relate to is Isla. We're alike in many things. Thanks for this amazing giveaway! x
ReplyDeleteI think I relate most to Anna, but I wish I were more like Lola.
ReplyDeleteI think the one I relate to the most is Anna, because I just understood her in so many levels, she's like my spirit animal!
ReplyDeleteI think probably Anna. Not sure why, but I just felt closest to her.
ReplyDeleteUghhhhhhh I've been eying your store with greedy eyes ever since you tweeted about opening it. EVERYTHING IS SO AMAZING AND I CAN'T HANDLE IT.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I totally agree about the characters feeling so real. I honestly related to parts of Anna, Lola, *and* Isla, but overall, I think I related to Isla the most.
All of this is beautiful! Thanks you for the giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteI still haven't read 'Isla & the Happily Ever After,' but I can say that I can relate the most to is Anna.
I've been new to places where I didn't know anyone but my brother & parents, so I understood her in a way. To be somewhere foreign & trying to find YOUR own place in the world while missing everything you considered "home."
I can't say who I'm the most like because I haven't read Isla yet. But I do know that I could connect more with Lola, and that I loved her story more. Thank you for the amazing giveaway! And seriously, your designs are AWESOME! I just want all of it. :)
ReplyDeleteTHESE ARE SO CUTE AHHH *squeals*
ReplyDeleteI can relate to Isla the most which is one of the reasons why Isla and the Happily Ever After is my favorite book out of the three! I am a senior like her, dealing with college stuff and trying to maintain good grades. There were a lot of realizations she had about herself in the book which made me realize something about myself as well. Isla also had a huge crush on a guy for a few years and uhh that's kind of me as well haha! :)
I haven't read Isla yet, so I can't say definitively, but I'd say Anna at the moment. And these designs are A-MAY-ZING, just like the novels.
ReplyDeleteI'm not counting this as a comment entry because I can't answer your question, as I still haven't read a Perkins books. (I KNOW.) But there's no way I'm not entering these giveaways because 1) I want to read Perkins someday and this will get me in the mood, and 2) there's no way I'd pass up a chance to win a Gillian Berry original. :D
ReplyDeleteThis is an AMAZING giveaway! Thanks! :) I especially love the mugs. I wish I had them at home :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Isla and the Happily Ever After yet (can't wait to read it) so I think I can relate to Anna the most. Lola is a great character too but we don't have much in common.
I definitely relate to Anna the most, just because her personality is the most like mine... plus she loves British accents. :) Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDelete- Jana
I haven't read Isla yet! I'm also struggling with finishing Lola. DON'T HATE ME. I relate to Anna a lot though. Mostly the way she was worried about exploring Paris, sort of shut herself in and over-reacted to situations, like worrying about stuff that could happen.
ReplyDeleteThose are some gor-geous mugs. Let me tell you.
Off Topic, but oh my gosh! I just discovered your lovely shop! I see several things I MUST have.
I'm not even going to pretend I'm not in this for a tote. I TOTES NEED IT.
ReplyDeleteTerrible pun, but I had toteally had to. Hahahahaha
Ummmm, also, this who do I most relate to question is hard since I've only read Anna. Obviously not St. Clair, because obviously. I'm not that compelling and I am perfectly happy being single. Not Anna, because hahaha have you seen my house. Not any of the douches because I hope I'm not that douchey. Not Isla because I think I probably would have explained about the punching incident because righteous indignation. Not Josh because again I don't think I'm that lively. Not Mer because soccer. So I guess I identify most with Rashmi by process of elimination, even though I'm not into PDA. She does seem a bit judgmental and intimidating, so that part's about right.
You are welcome for this super serious discussion of who I relate to.
YOU TOTES HAD TO USE THAT PUN AND MINE'S NOT AS GOOD WHATEVER LAUGHTER TIMES
DeleteYour thesis is well-supported.
Isis. I relate to Isis. I like sleeping and carrots and peeing in the corner. (Just kidding about the peeing) (or am i?) (I'm having the strangest deja vu right now, have I said this before?) (maybe)
ReplyDeleteI don't even remember anymore! It's been so long since I read the first 2. I have my pre-ordered signed copy of Isla next to me though, and I'm going to hang out w/ the whole gang soon and do a reread. At this point though, I'm pretty sure I most identify with Isla.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Anna for numerous reasons! Plus she's my fave:D Thanks for the giveaway lovely!
ReplyDeleteI think I relate to Anna the most, although I definitely see myself in Isla as well! (Or maybe I just want to relate to Anna because I want my own Etienne. Ha). I definitely wish I could have Lola's confidence, especially when it comes to fashion.
ReplyDeleteI've actually only read Anna and the French Kiss. The rest of the series is on my TBR. I guess I relate to Anna the most. I definitely understand her obsession with having everything in the right place. I organize my closet by color!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Isla, because she feels so uncertain about her future!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read ISLA yet, so I'll have to say I can relate most to St. Clair the most--we're both pretty short and are imperfect in so many ways! I just wish I had an accent, though. ;P
ReplyDeleteI think probably Isla. She's the most unsure about herself and doesn't quite know what she wants to do with herself for the rest of her life.
ReplyDeleteI think I relate best to Lola so far, but I haven't read Isla yet, so it's too early to be certain
ReplyDeleteI think Isla, because I doubt myself so much, and hardly ever take risks.
ReplyDeleteOf all the Stephanie Perkins characters, I find that I relate the most to Anna. She's decidedly determined to do things her way, and though she gets nervous and awkward, she's also quite courageous. I love how funny and ranty her internal monologue can get - and it sounds an awful lot like mine too!
ReplyDeleteI am actually new to this series, but am definitely hoping to jump aboard the fangirl train!
