1. The Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson

I'm currently reading this one right now. LHA is one of my favorite authors ever, not to mention how seasonally appropriate the cover is.

2. A Mad, Wicked Folly by Sharon Biggs Waller

SUFFRAGETTES! Artists! Cute boys! Life drawing classes! (That means naked.)

3. Avalon by Mindee Arnett

It's billed as being for Firefly fans, so obviously I am all over that. Plus I want to know what the heck that thing on the cover is. Though guessing is fun too. (Space junk! Wasp! Very small rocks! Cherries!*)

4. Control by Lydia Kang

I need some straight-up science fiction in my life. Plus, look at the cool glowy cover!

5. Roomies by Tara Altebrando and Sara Zarr

Anybody remember P.S. Longer Letter Later? That's what this book reminds me of, but the NA version.

6. Being Sloane Jacobs by Lauren Morrill

Cuteness, feels, ice skating, switched identities, a world of yes.

7. Cruel Beauty by Rosamund Hodge

From what I've heard from friends who've read this, it's a strange but wonderful retelling of Beauty and the Beast with some Greek myths thrown in for good measure.

8. Evertrue by Brodi Ashton

I LOVE THIS SERIES AND I MUST KNOW THE ENDING I MUST

1364564513449631

9. Uninvited by Sophie Jordan

I love the concept of this one. A girl finds out, through genetic testing, that she has the murder gene. I haven't read Jordan's other books, but I'm totally curious about this one.

10. White Space by Ilsa J. Blick

This book is about a girl who can go INSIDE BOOKS and live in the white space between letters. I mean. I don't even know what that MEANS, but I like it.

BONUS: Backlist books I'm hoping to make time for!

The Host by Stephanie Meyer

Okay, yes, it's Stephanie Meyer. But I've heard interesting things about it, some of my friends really like it, the movie intrigued me against my better judgment, and I own it. Too bad it's like eleventy thousand pages.

Asunder by Jodi Meadows

I was a huge fan of Incarnate. I need to read the second book, Asunder, before Infinite comes out in January!

*This is a reference to a thing.

  1. Great list! I love THE HOST (and am also a huge Stephenie Meyer fan). I'll be honest: the first 100ish pages are a bore, but once you get past that it is SO GOOD. CRUEL BEAUTY, THE IMPOSSIBLE KNIFE OF MEMORY, and BEING SLOANE JACOBS are on my list, too! I have A MAD, WICKED FOLLY also, and while I'm not big on historical fiction, I'm excited to read it!

  2. Well, I will be reading Avalon and Cruel Beauty at some point, just don't know when. Same with Uninvited and Evertrue because I have ARCs but the only one that I will be reading like SOON is Being Sloane Jacobs. I really hope I like it. Because FIGURE SKATING.

  3. EVERTRUE!!! I need to know how that series ends, but Brodi Ashton ruined me with how she ended Everneath & Everbound, so I'm kind of hesitant at the same time!
The Host is also a book I have on my shelves which I want to read. The movie surprised me a lot! Some of my friends dragged me to see it and I was ready to hate it, but I quite enjoyed it LOL. But yeah, it's so big!

  4. The Host is one of my favorite books ever. I hated the movie.. The movie does it no justice at all. And yes, it's a million pages, but it doesn't feel like that long when you are deep into it. The beginning is a little slow because you don't understand things.. but then it picks up and the beginning all makes complete sense. This is the only book I've ever re read, and I loved it even more the second time. I think because I understood... the beginning wasn't nearly as slow the second time around.. I ate up every detail. :)

  8. Warning about THE HOST from when I read it when it first came out: the first about 170 pages are super slow to set up the story, then it gets interesting (or as interesting as any Stephanie Meyer book can get).

I feel so stupid that I forgot BEING SLOANE JACOBS on my list. blah

  9. Being Sloane Jacobs is SUCH a cute read. I really hope you enjoy it. Uninvited was another really good read. White Space is only okay so far. I need to read Cruel Beauty soonish *side eyes e-ARC guiltily* So envious that you got The Impossible Knife of Memory looks amazing and I am SO envious that you got the ARC.

  10. Sooo excited for A Mad, Wicked Folly, Being Sloane Jacobs (I LOVED Meant to Be!) and Cruel Beauty (fairy tale retelling with Greek mythology? And Beauty and the Beast? YES PLEASE!). I'm also really curious about White Space! It sounds very cool and reminds me of the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde, which is fab. Ahhh so many good books coming out! I will be drowning in my TBR pile :P

  12. I just started reading Avalon and it's good so far. I like the space feel to it. I have a copy of Evertrue, too, and I can't wait to dive in. I'm just worried something bad is going to happen to Cole--and I love him.

  14. Roomies! I knew I was forgetting something….I'm looking forward to Cruel Beauty and Avalon too though they didn't make my list. Being Sloane Jacobs did though. I loved Meant to Be and can't wait to read that one.

  15. Yeah, Avalon, Evertrue and Control are three books I'm looking forward to! And yes, you need to read Asunder and then bite your nails till Jan 28th and Infinite!!

  16. Avalon and Cruel Beauty are very, very good. I also really enjoyed Uninvited, but there are a few cheesy things--like badly written newspaper articles--I didn't love in it. I want to read almost all the rest of those on your list.

Except The Host. I've never read it, but I read the script while they were casting the movie, and I thought it was terrible.

  17. Oh, AVALON looks good, doesn't it?! I can't wait to read it (in February, probably, when I have some open reading time). Lovely list!

  18. The Host starts out so sl-- okay, I'm killing the joke, aren't I?

What a wonderful list you have Gillian! I also would love to get my hands on many of these. Especially Blank Space, I heard about it awhile ago, got super interested because HELLO CREATIVE PREMISE, got distracted by something shiny and forgot (my affections are steadfast and true, I know). So THANK YOU for reminding me that I really want to read it.

  19. Ohh, yes, new Laurie Halse Anderson! We'll ALL be reading this! Wow, that cover for CONTROL is creeeeeepy! Ice skating, you say? Gotta read BEING SLOANE JACOBS now! I'll be reading CRUEL BEAUTY and EVERTRUE as well! Alexa from Alexa Loves Books and I are co-hosting a Jodi Meadows Read-A-Thon from January 12th through February 1st. We'll read INCARNATE and ASUNDER, then conclude with INFINITE if you have time to fit in your reading then. Definitely join us if you can! abackwardsstory.blogspot.com/2013/11/Incarnate-Read-A-Thon-2014.html

  20. The Impossible Knife of Memory broke me. GILLIAN I AM NOT OKAY. So relevant, so timely, so honest. I JUST CANT.

  21. Evertrue. Man. I haven't been in love with that series like most but boy am I anxious to find out what happens.
Oooh, you know I really liked The Host. I have yet to see the movie but only because it looks horrid. lol

  22. I'm also looking forward to AVALON, because it sounds pretty darn amazing and different. ROOMIES is one that I am waiting to come out because I want to read it oh so bad, having had different roommates ever since 2005. BEING SLOANE JACOBS is probably going to be my next (or next next) read, because I'm in dire need of more cute contemporary books to comfort me in the cold. CRUEL BEAUTY is my jam because it's BEAUTY & THE BEAST, which I am obsessed with. WHITE SPACE is a new one for me, but it sounds UTTERLY fascinating. And definitely read THE HOST -- I want to hear your thoughts and to see if you like it as much as I did. And, of course, you know me, I'm a big fan of the Incarnate series so read ASUNDER too!

(Whew, I just babbled a bit. Sorry!)

  23. I'm also excited to read A Mad, Wicked Folly, Avalon (Firefly FTW!), Control, Roomies, and Cruel Beauty. Although, really, the rest of your picks also sound fantastic. I hope you're able to get to some of these books soon!

  24. I want to read most of these too! I hope you do get to read all of them. Asunder was good, and can we talk about how excited I am for Avalon? THIS EXCITED. I also wonder what the cover is, and I hope it's explained.
